Winter Holidays: Will school breaks in Haryana be extended?

India’s northern region is in the throes of severe cold, with dense fog and rains making matters worse. It has also made it difficult for students to attend school during this harsh weather. Due to the ongoing cold-wave conditions, many schools across the country have extended winter breaks. Some schools are also offering students the facility of online classes.

All the government and private schools were closed in Haryana for winter vacations from January 1 to January 15, 2025, as per the order of the Directorate of Education. The official orders specified that schools would reopen on January 16, 2025.

However, schools in Ambala and Kurukshetra districts have been extended for two more days because of adverse weather conditions in the state. According to reports, the schools will remain shut on January 16 and 17.

Additionally, various districts in Uttar Pradesh have also extended the winter holidays for school students up to Class 8. In Ghaziabad, the schools are expected to reopen for students on January 20, 2025.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted isolated rainfall activity over Haryana on Thursday, January 16. According to the IMD bulletin, the minimum temperature fell by 1-3°C in isolated pockets of Haryana.

Dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during the night and early morning hours in some parts of Haryana. The weather agency also predicted dense fog conditions during the night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Haryana from January 18 to 20.

Depending on the weather, the school authorities may extend the holidays even further. Students and parents are advised to contact their respective school authorities for more information and details on school closures.
