Swiggy has received approval from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to incorporate Swiggy Sports, a wholly-owned subsidiary aimed at venturing into sports and recreational activities.
The company announced the creation of Swiggy Sports during its July-September earnings to house the pickleball team it acquired in November 2023.
In a stock exchange filing, Swiggy stated, “The primary objectives of the new entity will encompass sports team ownership, management, talent development, event organisation, facility operations, career services, acquiring broadcasting and sponsorship rights, and promoting sports events through various business models.”
Swiggy purchased Team Mumbai in the World Pickleball League (WPBL) last November. Co-founded by former Indian tennis players Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar, the WPBL is India’s first global franchise-based pickleball league. Its inaugural season will be held from 24 January to 2 February 2025.
“The share capital for the entity will be set at ₹1 lakh,” the company stated.
Earlier this month, Swiggy introduced a new app, SNACC, designed to deliver quick bites, beverages, and meals within 15 minutes. The app was launched on 8 January in select areas of Bengaluru, with plans for expansion to other regions underway.
On 9 January, Swiggy announced that its grocery delivery service, Instamart, has expanded to 76 cities nationwide. While a standalone Instamart app is in the works, the service will remain accessible via Swiggy’s unified platform.
