The two-time Olympic medallist assured that a strong personality and a proper portrayal of that on the court plays a massive part in the success that an athlete secures. She said that the way one carries themselves should show the achievements they have notched while locking horns with any opponent. This fuels their drive during the game and maybe helps them get a mental edge over their adversaries.
“The person you are and the confidence you display on the court are extremely important. When you stand there, and people look up to you, they also need to see that you’ve accomplished a lot for the country. This, in itself, reflects your confidence — in how you carry yourself, how you prepare, and how you present your style and personality,” Sindhu said during the aforementioned conversation.
Sindhu has been one of India’s most consistently successful athletes in the last decade. She clinched the silver medal in the women’s singles badminton event at the Rio de Janerio Olympics in 2016. The 29-year-old followed it with a bronze medal finish in the subsequent edition of the quadrennial extravaganza in Tokyo. In between, she won the BWF World Championships in 2019. Sindhu was conferred with the Khel Ratna and the Padma Shri in 2016 and 2020 respectively.
“Maintaining success is an entirely different challenge”
She said that maintaining a streak of consistent success is more difficult than scaling the peak.
“Reaching a certain level of success is one thing, but maintaining it is an entirely different challenge. It requires even more time, dedication, and hard work to stay consistent,” Sindhu said.
Sindhu will be starting the New Year by taking part in the Indian Open scheduled to begin on January 14. She is slated to meet Anupama Upadhaya in the opening clash in the Round of 32, and is hoping to cap off a resounding performance to commence the calendar year on a strong note.
“As we step into a new year, I’m excited about my new brand association with Puma. This will be the first tournament I’m entering under this partnership, and I’m really looking forward to it, especially as it’s happening on home ground. I hope it will give me a significant boost and a lot of confidence moving forward,” Sindhu signed off.
