Delhi Elections 2025: A step-by-step guide to voter registration process online and offline
The Delhi assembly will go to polls in early 2025, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has already released its first list of candidates. In the last assembly polls, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party secured an absolute majority. While the parties start preparing for what’s expected to be an intense poll battle, voters, too, have to register themselves to exercise their franchise.

The Election Commission of India offers online voter registration for citizens who have attained the age of 18 on specific dates: January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1 of revision of the electoral roll. Here is a step-by-step guide on the voter registration process both online and offline.

How to Register Online:

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Election Commission of India’s Voter’s Service Portal.

Step 2: Click on ‘Sign up’ and fill in essential details like mobile number, email ID, and captcha.

Step 3: Verify via OTP and log in.

Step 4: Fill the Form 6 with the required details.

Step 5: Upload the documents and submit them.

How to Register Offline:

Step 1: Obtain Form 6 from the offices of Electoral Registration Officers / Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers or download it from the Voter Services portal.

Step 2: Fill out the form accurately with the required details.

Step 3: Submit the completed form in person before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer / Assistant Electoral Registration Officer or send it by post addressed to him or hand it to the BLO of your polling area.

Requirements to register to vote:

You can enrol as a voter if you:

  • Are an Indian citizen.
  • Have attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date, i.e., 1 Jan, 1 April, 1 July and 1 Oct of the year of revision of the electoral roll.
  • Are ordinarily residents of the part/polling area of the constituency where you want to be enrolled.
  • Are not disqualified to be enrolled as an elector.

Types of Forms for Registration:

  • Form 6: For first-time voters.
  • Form 6A: For NRIs.
  • Form 6B: To link Aadhaar card with Voter ID.
  • Form 7: To object inclusion/deletion from the electoral roll.
  • Form 8: For Voter ID modification.
