Noting tech glitches, CBIC extends GST return deadlines for GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B

Acknowledging technical glitches affecting the GST portal, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has extended the deadlines for filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns by two days.

For monthly taxpayers, the GSTR-1 deadline has been moved from 11 January to 13 January 2025, while QRMP taxpayers now have until 15 January instead of the earlier 13 January deadline.

Similarly, the GSTR-3B filing deadline for monthly taxpayers has been extended from 20 January to 22 January 2025. QRMP taxpayers will now need to file their returns by 24 or 26 January, instead of the previously set 22 or 24 January deadline.

This decision follows widespread complaints about technical glitches on the GST portal, which rendered users unable to generate or file their summaries on time.

The CBIC has assured users that steps are being taken to resolve the technical challenges on the GST Network.

These changes aim to ensure a smoother compliance experience for businesses, reducing the stress caused by system outages. Taxpayers are encouraged to utilise the extended timelines to fulfil their obligations without penalties.
