On X, Bhajanlal Sharma said, “Our Government has taken a meaningful decision to make the film “The Sabarmati Report” tax-free in Rajasthan. This film realistically depicts that horrific period of history, which some selfish elements tried to distort to fulfil their vested interests”.
He added that the incident has been presented with utmost sensitivity in this film. “This film not only effectively exposes the reality of the then system, but also refutes the misleading and false narratives propagated at that time. This unfortunate and heartbreaking incident has been presented with utmost sensitivity in the film. This film must also be watched because only a deep and critical study of the past can help us understand the present and provide guidance for the future,” Bhajanlal added.
Madhya Pradesh was the first state to declare The Sabarmati Report tax-free; Haryana and Chhattisgarh followed suit.
Directed by Dheeraj Sarna, the film stars Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna and Ridhi Dogra in pivotal roles. The film is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures. It is based on true events and sheds light on the horrific incident that claimed 59 lives, mostly kar sevaks, when a coach of the Sabarmati Express train was set afire near Godhra station on February 27, 2002.
The film has received endorsement from top government officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who commended it for bringing out the truth about one of India’s most shameful events in recent history. PM Modi was Gujarat’s CM at the time of the incident.
