X CEO Linda Yaccarino praises Elon Musk’s vision to trim government
Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, X CEO Linda Yaccarino addressed a range of topics, including Elon Musk’s vision for government efficiency and the return of Donald Trump as the President of the United States.

Yaccarino commended Musk, X’s owner, for his “visionary leadership” and his role in “fostering transparency and open dialogue”. She described Musk as “the most transparent user of X” and credited his posts for inspiring others to share their thoughts and ideas openly. Yaccarino emphasised the importance of free speech, calling it the “core foundational value” of X and a driver of its success as the world’s leading news app.

When asked about Musk’s involvement in government efficiency initiatives, Yaccarino expressed confidence in his ability to bring about meaningful change. She referred to Musk’s collaboration with Vivek Ramaswamy on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as “a groundbreaking effort to identify and eliminate waste in government operations”.

“As Americans, we should all be rooting for the overwhelming success of DOGE,” Yaccarino said, adding that such initiatives could serve as a unifying force for the country.

Yaccarino also touched on the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump, stating that the new administration’s use of X for transparent communication would mark a significant shift in how governments interact with the public. She described X as an essential platform for real-time updates and discussions, noting its role in fostering a “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

She said 2024 gave X several watershed moments, including its “pivotal role” during the US presidential election. She pointed to “record-breaking engagement” on the platform during key events such as Election Day on November 5 and the announcement of President-elect Trump’s cabinet nominees. “There’s no surrogate for X,” Yaccarino said. “It’s where people come to find out what’s happening in real-time.”

Yaccarino also defended Musk against criticisms of political interference, particularly allegations from European leaders. She argued that X provides a platform for diverse perspectives and empowers users to make their own decisions. “If not for X, where would those conversations be?” she asked, referencing the platform’s role in exposing issues like the grooming gang scandal in the UK.

Looking ahead, Yaccarino expressed optimism about X’s future, citing innovations like X Money and Grok as transformative technologies that will redefine user experiences and propel the platform to new heights in 2025. “X is changing the way people engage with social media, and we’re just getting started,” she said.
