Happy Birthday, AR Rahman: Key achievements and awards of the music maestro

Music composer AR Rahman is celebrating his 58th birthday on January 6. From the global blockbuster Slumdog Billionaire to the melancholic melodies of Roja, Rahman is a master of creating timeless music that transcends language and borders.

Apart from being a music composer, he is also a singer-songwriter, music producer, and philanthropist. His extensive body of work for film and stage has given him the nickname of ‘the Mozart of Madras.’ Born on January 6, 1967, he is known for his works in Indian cinema, especially in Tamil and Hindi films.

Before his career in the industry, he began his career composing jingles for brands like Titan and Allwyn. His music journey began in 1992 with the Tamil film Roja, which became a massive success. He also composed music for several other Tamil films, including Bombay, Kadhalan and Gentleman.

His Bollywood debut with Rangeela was also a huge success, followed by critically acclaimed soundtracks for Dil Se, Taal and Lagaan. With a career spanning over three decades, Rahman has received numerous accolades. The list of awards includes the National Film Award, Grammy Awards and others.
