These initiatives are part of the government’s broader push to begin modernising the national capital, particularly ahead of the upcoming Delhi elections.
Inauguration of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor
One of the flagship projects being inaugurated is the 13-km stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, running between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar.
This ₹4,600 crore project is a key addition to the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) network, linking Delhi with Meerut.
The new corridor will be the first Namo Bharat connectivity in Delhi, offering high-speed and comfortable travel for commuters, significantly reducing travel time and enhancing safety and reliability.
Delhi Metro Phase-IV: Janakpuri to Krishna Park
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the 2.8-km stretch of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV, which connects Janakpuri and Krishna Park.
Worth approximately ₹1,200 crore, this new stretch will benefit residents from West Delhi, including areas like Krishna Park, Vikaspuri, and Janakpuri. It marks the first section of the Delhi Metro Phase-IV to be operationalized, further expanding the city’s metro network.
Rithala-Kundli Metro Extension
The Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the 26.5 km Rithala-Kundli section of Delhi Metro Phase-IV, valued at around ₹6,230 crore.
This extension will link Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur (Kundli) in Haryana, significantly improving connectivity for the North-Western regions of Delhi and Haryana.
The Prime Minister will also undertake a ride in Namo Bharat Train at around 11:15 AM from Sahibabad RRTS Station to New Ashok Nagar RRTS Station.
Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) at Rohini
PM Modi will also lay the foundation for a new state-of-the-art building for the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Rohini, New Delhi.
The ₹185 crore project will provide modern healthcare infrastructure, housing administrative, outpatient, inpatient, and treatment blocks. This facility aims to enhance the research and healthcare capabilities in the field of Ayurveda.
Recent inauguration of urban development projects
On January 3, the Prime Minister inaugurated several other key projects, including 1,675 flats for residents of JJ clusters and two urban redevelopment projects aimed at enhancing living conditions in the city.
Addressing a public meeting in Ashok Vihar’s Ramlila Ground, PM Modi reminisced about his time in Ashok Vihar during the fight against Indira Gandhi’s dictatorship, emphasising the historical significance of the area.
The development initiatives come just ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, which are expected to take place in February.
With the BJP striving to challenge the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has held power in the city since 2013, these projects are part of the BJP-led government’s effort to demonstrate its commitment to the city’s growth and development. The AAP, on the other hand, is making a concerted effort to retain its grip on Delhi, setting the stage for a high-stakes political contest.
