Incident details
On December 4, a massive crowd had gathered at Sandhya Theatre to catch a glimpse of Allu Arjun, who was attending the premiere of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The chaos escalated when the actor waved to fans from the sunroof of his car, triggering a stampede. Revathi succumbed to her injuries, while her child was hospitalised.
Legal proceedings
Following the incident, a case was registered at the Chikkadpally police station against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management. The charges, filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), were based on a complaint from Revathi’s family.
Allu Arjun was arrested by Hyderabad police on December 13 and was released on December 14 after furnishing a ₹50,000 bond. The Telangana High Court had granted him a four-week interim bail.
Allegations and complaint
According to the complaint filed by the deceased’s family, the stampede was allegedly exacerbated by a lathi charge by police officials who were escorting Allu Arjun at the event. The complainant accused the authorities of failing to ensure adequate arrangements for crowd control.
“He has further alleged that lathi charge resorted to by police officials and lack of necessary arrangements, when film star Allu Arjun entered the theatre, resulted in the death of the woman and injuries to her children,” the complaint stated.
