Coco Gauff Celebrates Her US Open Win with Hometown Party

Coco Gauff is the toast of tennis — and Delray Beach, Florida!

Over the weekend, the US Open champion celebrated her historic Grand Slam win with family and friends in her hometown.

“Me n only SOME of my favorite people ” the 19-year-old phenom wrote on Instagram alongside a carousel of happy photos.

Wearing a hot pink embellished minidress, Gauff posed alongside friends, danced with family members and blew out sparklers on a cake as guests enjoyed the special night at the hotel’s Rosewater Rooftop restaurant.

For Gauff, celebrating with those who have supported her rise to the top of tennis was a full-circle moment.

Her US Open title — which made the teenager the youngest American to win the tournament since Serena Williams in 1999 — was the result of a hard-fought match against Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka. After losing the first set 3-6, Gauff rallied back to take the second set 6-3, and finished out the match with a dominant 6-2 final set.

Following her victory, Gauff made sure to thank her parents, Candi and Corey Gauff — and laughingly revealed to the crowd about the latter: “This is the first time I’ve ever seen my dad cry — he doesn’t want me to tell you that.”

Meanwhile, other members of her family watched her victory from Florida, including her grandmother Yvonne Odom and great aunt Daisy Fulton.

“People always said, ‘Oh, that’s as far as you can go. You can’t go any further. Oh, you’ll never make it, and you’ll never achieve that,'” Fulton told ABC affiliate WPBF-TV.  “We hear that as family members, and we say it’s not her season, but when her season comes, the world will know it, and now the world knows it, and we’re so proud of her… Thanks to God for blessing our family with such an amazing young lady who represents herself and her family and her community and the world at large.”

And the city of Delray Beach is also giving thanks — and planning a parade in Coco’s honor, according to the Sun Sentinel
