Coal Ministry reports 5.33% growth in December coal production; dispatches rise 6.36%

The Ministry of Coal on Wednesday (January 1) announced a 5.33% year-on-year increase in coal production for December 2024, reaching 97.94 million tonnes (MT) compared to 92.98 MT in December 2023.

Captive and other mines contributed significantly with 18.95 MT, showing a robust 29.61% growth from 14.62 MT during the same period last year.

Cumulative coal production for FY 2024-25 up to December 2024 rose by 6.11%, reaching 726.29 MT (provisional), compared to 684.45 MT in the corresponding period of FY 2023-24.

Coal dispatches for December 2024 increased by 6.36% year-on-year (YoY) to 92.59 MT, up from 87.06 MT in December 2023. Dispatches from captive and other mines also surged by 31.83% to 18.13 MT.

Cumulative dispatches for FY 2024-25 stood at 750.75 million tonne (provisional), a 5.58% growth from 711.07 million tonne in FY 2023-24.

“The ministry continues to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing production, ensuring seamless dispatch, and catering to the growing energy demands of the nation. The consistent growth in coal production and dispatch underscores the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to achieving self-reliance in coal and fulfilling the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” it said.
