The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is the statutory body responsible for implementing the Aadhaar program, a biometric-based identification system for Indian residents.

Aadhaar provides a 12-digit unique identification number linked to an individual’s biometric data (fingerprints and iris scans) and demographic information. It was launched to streamline various government services and welfare schemes, ensuring more efficient delivery of benefits and reducing fraud. Aadhaar has become a cornerstone of India’s digital identity infrastructure, impacting sectors such as banking, telecommunications, and healthcare.
