On New Year, Manipur CM N Biren Singh announces 7% DA Hike for state govt employees

In what comes as a new year gift for the state government employees, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced a significant 7% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA), raising it to 39% starting from January 2025. The decision is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of government workers in the state.

In his address, Singh also highlighted several key initiatives aimed at boosting the state’s economy, supporting entrepreneurship, and aiding internally displaced people (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence. Under the Chief Minister’s Entrepreneurship Support Scheme, the government has already provided collateral-free loans to 426 internally displaced people, enabling them to start or expand their businesses.

Plans to promote youth employment

Singh emphasised that successful start-ups funded by the Manipur government will also offer employment opportunities to IDPs. Seven start-ups have already been identified, which are set to hire 432 displaced individuals.

In another major announcement, Singh revealed plans to train around 500 youths in Delhi for cabin crew placements with leading airlines Air India and IndiGo. The training program will be funded by the Ministry of Tourism, with priority given to displaced people from the region.

‘One Family, One Livelihood’ scheme – Check details

The Chief Minister also mentioned that under the “One Family, One Livelihood” scheme, the government is providing loans of up to ₹10 lakh, with a 30% subsidy, to help 5,000 families. So far, 745 beneficiaries have been shortlisted, and nine loans have been disbursed.

Additional flights from Imphal at subsidised rates

To further enhance connectivity, Singh shared that Manipur’s state government, in collaboration with Alliance Air, will introduce additional flights from Imphal to three major cities starting in January 2025. The government will subsidise ticket prices, keeping fares under ₹5,000 for the year-long initiative.
