Karnataka High Court puts temporary stay on arrest warrant against Robin Uthappa

Karnataka High Court on Tuesday put on hold the arrest warrant against  Robin Uthappa. The former Indian cricketer has been  allegedly involved in a case of Provident Fund (PF) fraud.

According to legal news website Bar and Bench a Vacation Bench presided by Justice Suraj Govindaraj has granted interim protection to Uthappa and stayed the arrest warrant and all related proceedings in the case against him.

On December 21, an arrest warrant was issued against Uthappa in connection with an alleged fraud involving employee provident fund (EPF) contributions at Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, a Bengaluru-based company where he serves as a director.

The warrant stems from unpaid dues of nearly ₹24 lakh related to EPF contributions of the company’s employees. Uthappa has been given until December 27 to clear the outstanding amount, failing which he could face arrest.

The warrant of arrest issued by Shadakshara Gopala Reddy, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner – II and Recovery Officer, K R Puram stated that 23,36,602 is to be recovered from Uthappa, the defaulter

The same day, Uthappa took to social media platforms and made a statement.

Uthappa represented India in 46 ODIs and and 13 T20Is from April 2006 to July 2015. He scored 1183 runs including seven half-centuries.
