How to dress up for the holidays, according to Liz Uy

The colors red, green, and gold are synonymous with the usual choices people make when dressing up for the holidays, especially Christmas, but according to Liz Uy, going beyond those colors is also possible.

In an interview with GMA News Online during the launch of Liz’s clothing label BYLZ, the celebrity stylist said it’s not about the colors that make your ensemble look festive. It’s about how you style your look.

Liz’s top rule of thumb? “You have to know your style,” no matter the occasion.

“As we get to know ourselves a little bit better, you’ll know your style, what would fit you, and stick to that,” she said.

Especially for the Christmas season, here are Liz’s three styling tips to consider if you want to veer away from the usual reds, greens, and golds.

Texture is the way to go

A normal dress can be used for the holidays if the material has texture, just like BYLZ’s day-to-night wrinkled dress. It’s in light brown, but with the material’s texture, it looks as festive as it can be.

LBD, but with fringes

Black is probably the most unfestive color, but it can be elevated with accessories and a bold makeup look.

Liz crafted a fringe skirt for BYLZ that you can also use as a “little black dress.” What makes this number holiday-approved is its generous amount of fringes.

“Use bold accessories like a choker and stockings to elevate the look further for the holidays,” Liz said. You can also use red lipstick for a bold statement.

Power blazer for the holidays

If Liz can pick one piece of clothing that she swears by for any occasion, it’s an oversized blazer.

“Blazers can also be festive. I would wear a red sparkling dress, put a blazer on, and call it a day,” she said.

Liz first introduced her clothing line BYLZ in August. This label, which features 28 elevated essentials, timeless basics, and fashion-forward pieces, is a culmination of Liz’s personal style journey, and Liz herself styles all the pieces.

Liz is married to Raymond Racaza. They have two children: Xavi and Matias.
