Visiting the country at the invitation of President Ali, PM Modi will remain in Guyana until November 21. He is scheduled to hold talks with Ali and exchange views on giving strategic direction to the unique relationship between the two nations.
Around 3,20,000 people of Indian origin live in Guyana, as per the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
During his visit, PM Modi will pay respect to one of the oldest Indian diasporas that migrated over 185 years ago, besides engaging a fellow democracy with an address in the Parliament of Guyana.
Later, he will be joining leaders from the Caribbean partner nations to take part in the second India-CARICOM Summit.

Guyana will confer its highest national award, “The Order of Excellence” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Barbados will confer the prestigious Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados on Prime Minister Modi.
Dominica had too announced its highest National Award-“Dominica Award of Honour” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi a few days back.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was on a ‘productive’ trip to Nigeria. He held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, besides interacting with the Indian community. He was also conferred with the nation’s national honour — the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON).
This was the 17th international award conferred on the Indian Prime Minister by a country, PTI reported.
The visit to Nigeria was also a historic one. It served as the maiden trip to the West African country by an Indian PM in 17 years.
From there, Prime Minister Modi travelled to Brazil to take part in the G20 Summit. In Brazil, he met with several global leaders, including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
PM Modi held a brief interaction with Biden on the sidelines of the summit. This took place after the recently concluded US presidential election.
While addressing a session of the summit on Monday, PM Modi noted that India’s G20 theme of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” was as relevant at the latest summit as it was last year, the news agency reported.
He added that countries from the Global South were most adversely impacted by the food, fuel and fertiliser crisis that has happened due to global conflicts. He noted that the G20 must focus on addressing it.
