CARA Welfare Philippines will stop its community cat welfare programs in five areas in Makati City.
In a statement on Sunday, the non-profit animal welfare organization announced that it can no longer continue caring for community cats in Greenbelt, Glorietta, Ayala Triangle Gardens, Palm Promenade, and Dolphin Park after December 31.
“This decision was not made lightly but has become unavoidable due to financial constraints that make sustaining these efforts unfeasible,” CARA said.
“For the past 15 years, CARA has dedicated resources to caring for the community cats in these areas, ensuring their welfare through feeding, medical care, and neutering. Unfortunately, the rising costs of veterinary services, cat food, and other essential resources, coupled with limited funding, have made it impossible for us to maintain this program.”
CARA said they are hopeful that Ayala Malls management will continue the extensive community cat program their organization has implemented all these years.
The organization expressed their gratitude to the volunteers, individuals, and groups who have supported their advocacy efforts throughout the years.
“Your kindness has been instrumental in improving the lives of the community cats and raising awareness about animal welfare,” they said.
They also encouraged the public to continue supporting humane and sustainable solutions for community cats.
“Together, we can still make a difference by promoting responsible pet ownership, adopting out only the friendly stray animals, and advocating for animal welfare,” CARA said.
“We remain committed to our broader mission of improving animal welfare in the Philippines and will focus our limited resources on other essential programs. Thank you for your understanding, support, and shared love for our furry friends.”
Launched in 2000, CARA is a spay and neuter facility that promotes adoption, humane education. and responsible pet ownership. As of December 2024, the organization has spayed 29,302 cats and 644 dogs.
