Sporting fraternity pays its tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh

Indian sporting fraternity paid its tribute to Dr. Manmohan Singh. The former Prime Minister breathed his last in New Delhi on Thursday night. He was 92.

Singh’s death was announced by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, where he was admitted in the Emergency ward around 8.30 PM in a critical condition.

An AIIMS bulletin said “he(Singh) was treated for age related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home” on December 26.

Many sporting greats condoled the death of Singh.

For cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar Singh’s death is ” a profound loss for India.”

” deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji” wrote Olympic champion and shooting great Abhinav Bindra on X.

Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu recalled her brief interaction with the former Prime Minister in 2013.

” truly one of a kind. His contribution especially towards bringing economic stability to our county will be studied by future generations. ” wrote Gautam Gambir, the coach of India’s men’s cricket team.

Indian Test cricketer Ajinkya Rahane posted a picture of the former PM and wrote:  “Your unwavering commitment to India’s economic growth will forever be remembered.”

Olympian and champion wrestler Vinesh Phogat too eulogized Singh.

“Our generation will be perennially grateful to Dr Manmohan Singh” wrote cricketer commentator Harsha Bhogle in the memory of Singh.

Olympic bronze medalist in boxing Vijender Singh thanked Singh for his contributions in nation’s development and said the country will forever will be indebted for the work done.
