Reddy, playing his first Test series, reached the milestone with a four off Scott Boland down to long-on in the 115th over of the Indian innings. The moment became memorable for the youngster as his father was following the proceedings from the stands.

At 21 years and 216 days, Reddy is now the third youngest Indian, behind Sachin Tendulkar and Rishabh Pant to notch maiden Test century for India in Australia. The innings along with his 127-run partnership with Washington Sundar bailed India from a troubled situation.
Reddy is ninth Indian to score a Test hundred at MCG. Other Indian batsmen who have achieved the feat are Vinoo Mankad, Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Viswanath, Sachin Tendulkar, Virendra Sehwag, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara.
“For our family, it’s a special day and we cannot forget this day in our life. He has been performing well since the age group of 14-15 and now in international cricket, it’s a very special feeling.” Mutyala Reddy, Nitish’s father, told Adam Gilchrist for Australia’s official broadcaster Fox Sports.
Reddy was unbeaten on 105 off 176 balls when poor light halted play. Soon it started to rain and the umpires were forced to call for early Stumps.
