After a dismal performance in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar test, Indian Cricket Team fans and hardcore Rohit Sharma fans are trolling the Indian captain. Sharma after missing the first test for personal reasons, joined the team in the second game of the series, taking over the captaincy from the Jasprit Bumrah, who was the stand in captain for the Perth Test. In the subsequent games Sharma has managed to score a mere 22 runs in the four innings, adding to his poor test run this year.
Sharma only managed to score 155 runs in eight matches in 2024 at an average of 11.07, indicative of his poor form in Tests. His inability to score runs has raised questions about his future in the team. Not just as a captain, but also as a player. Players are allowed to have their ups and downs but failing as captain is something that cannot be pardoned.
Although, India won a T20 World Cup this year under his leadership, but a few months later they were white-washed in a three match home test series by New Zealand, the first time since 2000. Indian Cricket Team, particularly the test team, has dominated world cricket not just at home but also in away games. In the 2018-2019 Border-Gavaskar trophy, the touring Indian team beat the Australian team by 2-1 in the four match series, achieving a historic feat. In 2020, the India went down under for the second consecutive Border-Gavaskar trophy, ending up on the winning side for the second time. In 2023, India hosted the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, defeating Australia three times in a row.

Going into the 2024 BG Trophy, the Indian team were deemed to be the favorites to win the trophy. That confidence was strengthened after India completely annihilated the Australian side, winning the match by little less than 200 runs. After crumbling in the first innings for just 150 runs, India’s batting posted a massive 487 runs in the second innings on the back of a daddy-hundred from Jaiswal, a posed century by Virat Kohli and steady 77-run knock by KL Rahul. The Australian batting side failed to rise to the occasion both times falling short of the target both times, and in the end, losing by a big target.
Upon facing a humiliating loss at Adelaide Oval in the pink ball test, talks about Rohit Sharma stepping down as the Indian Test Captain has surfaced the internet. While, subsquently, questions are being raised on the Gautam Gambhir’s faculty as a coach. The World Cup winning captain is sure to face an onslaught of trolls and memes if his poor batting form and captaincy record continues in the test series.

It’s been 10 years since India were bullied the way they have been this morning on Australian soil & it’s the kind of session which can really expose a touring captain as this one has Rohit Sharma #AusvInd

A batting average worse than Siraj, Bumrah, AkashDeep in the series.
This is the lowest of lows for Rohit Sharma. He seems absolutely short in confidence. Only one word, DISAPPOINTED. pic.twitter.com/UifqSO1yDY— Sameer Allana (@HitmanCricket) December 27, 2024
