Former Australian captain Steve Smith was the star of the day as he slammed his 11th Test century against India. Thanks to his hundred, Australia scored 474 in their first innings.
India faced early jitters with Pat Cummins picking up the wickets of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. India were 51/2 when Virat Kohli joined Yashavi Jaiswal in the middle. The two put a 102-run partnership and Jaiswal hit a half-century as India clawed their way back into the match.
Jaiswal hammered 11 fours and a six and was going strong at 82 off 117 balls when a moment of indecision led to his departure. Jaiswal clipped the sixth ball of the 41st over to mid-on and called Kohli for a quick single. However there was a big mix-up between the two batters and a loss of communication led to Jaiswal’s unfortunate run-out. Jaiswal was more than half-way down the pitch and Kohli did not move from his crease at all. Australian captain Pat Cummins, standing at mid-on collected the ball and threw it to Alex Carey who completed the job of running out Jaiswal.
A massive mix-up between Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal sees Jaiswal run out for 82! #AUSvIND | #PlayOfTheDay | @nrmainsurance pic.twitter.com/a9G4uZwYIk

The left-handed batter, who had played a measured knock, had to make his long and lonely way back to the dressing room.
The dismissal though raised eyebrows and left cricket fans divided! For some it was Jaiswal’s mistake that led to the wicket, while the other pointed fingers at Kohli!
The incident was also discussed and debated on the Star Sports post-match show with former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan on opposite ends. For Manjrekar, Kohli was at fault while for Pathan thought it was Jaiswal’s mistake.
People love to criticise Virat Kohli.
But Yashasvi Jaiswal’s run out was not Kohli’s fault.— Pakchikpak Raja Babu (@HaramiParindey) December 27, 2024
Virat Kohli in this match so far.
Pushed a 19 year old on field, got a 22 year old Yashasvi Jaiswal run out and himself got out even before the night watchman got out.Man is totally in destruction mode. Get him retired before team India suffers any big damage.

Never seen a brainfade moment like this before & Virat Kohli is not at fault this time, Yashasvi Jaiswal is solely to be blame for this runout!! pic.twitter.com/GUS7cDoSJs
