This is the Official Tournament Poster for 1966 FIFA World Cup. The poster has three elements, a golden ball, the official mascot and the logo. The logo The logo was represented as the tournament with a Jules Rimet Trophy with the FA crest placed in the ball as the globe surrounded by the words “WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP • JULES RIMET CUP • ENGLAND • 1966”. And the background was the British flag (The Union Jack) as the union of all four Constituent countries of the UK (England with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland). Besides England, neither of three British football teams didn’t qualify the tournament. The 1966 was the first football World Cup to have its own mascot. A lion was picked to be the mascot for the tournament and he was named Willie. Willie was shown always wearing the Union Jack Shirt, as a representation of one of constituent countries of the UK. At the group-stage level, hosts England were part of Group 1 alongside Uruguay, Mexico and France. England drew their tournament opener against Uruguay as the match ended 0-0. The Three Lions’ next game was against Mexico. Goals from forwards Bobby Charlton and Roger Hunt were enough for England to beat Mexico 2-0. The final of the 1966 FIFA World Cup was played between England and West Germany at Wembley Stadium. Geoff Hurst’s hat-trick ensured that England beat West Germany 4-2 to win the World Cup.
