The year 2024 is pretty eventful, to say the least.
Aside from messy controversies that peppered the year from start — remember the viral April Fool’s Day prank of takoyaki shop Taragis? — to finish (BJ Pascual, Denise Julia, and Killa Kush saga, anyone?), celebrity breakups dominated this year.
Before we officially wrap up 2024, here’s a rundown of celebrity couples who called it quits this year, resulting in mixed emotions for their fans and followers.
1. Jericho Rosales & Kim Jones
Jericho Rosales and Kim Jones’ breakup was made public in January, but according to Ricci Ocampo, the ex-couple’s godfather at their wedding, the two have been separated since 2019.
It would’ve been sad — the couple would’ve celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary in May — but the former couple have remained friends, so that’s alright, we guess.
In February, Bea Alonzo and Dominic Roque confirmed in a joint social media statement that they had broken up and had decided to call off their wedding.
Four months later, Bea clarified she did not initiate the breakup.
Bea and Dominic began dating in January 2021 and got engaged in July 2024.
Also in February, Catriona Gray and Sam Milby’s talent agency, Cornerstone Entertainment, released a statement confirming that they were “facing some challenges in their relationship.”
The statement came a year after Catriona and Sam got engaged.
The ex-couple, who revealed their relationship in 2020, previously said they supposedly plan to tie the knot in 2024.
4. Sarah Lahbati & Richard Gutierrez
After months of separation rumors, Sarah Lahbati confirmed in March that she and Richard Gutierrez are no longer together.
Following their breakup announcement, the ex-couple started spending time with their kids, Zion and Kai, on a scheduled basis.
They got married in 2020.
In July, Maris Racal confirmed that she and Rico Blanco are no longer an item.
The ex-couple dated for two years before they made their relationship public in 2021. It would’ve been a clean breakup but then…
6. Anthony Jennings & Jam Villanueva
Five months after Maris confirmed her breakup with Rico, her onscreen partner Anthony Jennings made headlines after his ex-girlfriend Jam Villanueva exposed the conversation between Maris and Anthony as she announced her breakup from Anthony.
Maris addressed the issue through a video statement, saying she was “taking accountability for everything.”
Meanwhile, Anthony apologized to both Maris and Jam through a video statement.
7. Kyline Alcantara & Mavy Legaspi
In August, Kyline Alcantara spoke up about her split with Mavy Legaspi in an episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” saying that “everyone should move on from it.”
Kyline and Mavy have been subjects of controversy since late 2023, after netizens noticed that the two stopped engaging and posting each other on social media.
8. Sue Ramirez & Javi Benitez
In November, Victorias City, Negros Occidental Mayor Javi Benitez confirmed his breakup with Sue Ramirez. They were together for five years.
Javi issued the statement after a video of Sue seemingly kissing fellow actor Dominic Roque in Siargao went viral.
9. AiAi delas Alas & Gerald Sibayan
AiAi delas Alas confirmed her separation from husband, Gerald Sibayan in a November episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.”
In the same interview, AiAi revealed they tried to conceive a child via in vitro fertilization (IVF). They had three embryos, but Gerald was “hurt” after they lost two of them.
The ex-couple tied the knot in 2017 and renewed their wedding vows in Las Vegas in 2022. The couple were together for 10 years.
In November, six months after netizens started speculating about their breakup, Paolo Contis admitted he is currently single.
The breakup speculations started in May when Yen deleted her Instagram birthday greeting for Paolo.
Paolo confirmed his relationship with Yen in 2023 but denied she was the reason for his breakup with LJ Reyes.
