Nitin Gadkari’s remarks on live-in liaisons and same-sex marriages go viral — what did he say

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has gone viral with some remarks he made in a recent podcast — where he referred to alleged “problems” that are disrupting society or may do so in the future.

Gadkari, who is usually part of discussions of road expansion in India, was recently seen in his YouTube podcast terming live-in relationships and same-sex marriages as “wrong” and “unfair.” Gadkari set the Net on fire with his claims that such practices disrupt societies and social structures, and that some social norms should be in place to follow stringently.

Gadkari cited developed countries as supposed examples of the negative consequences of such practices in his podcast titled, Europe Already Facing A CrisisHe recounted his visit to the British Parliament and asking the prime minister and foreign secretary of UK about major issues in their country. Gadkari reported that they response was that the youth do not want to get married and prefer live-in settings instead, which is allegedly causing a population crisis with a skewed sex ratio in European countries.

He added that there is a need to balance the sex ratio and urged married couples to have children, iterating that governments may even be forced to resort to allowing men to have more than one wife if the sex ratio is badly imbalanced.

He further advised parents to ensure a “good” upbringing for their children.
