Pocket FM Playback 2024: From Gen Z to milennials, here’s what Indians listened to this year

Pocket FM, an audio series platform, has shared its 2024 consumption insights through its annual report, Pocket FM Playback 2024. The report provides data on how users engaged with audio content over the year, highlighting growth in engagement, content expansion, and revenue.

Key Data and Milestones

Accordig to the report, in 2024, listeners globally streamed over 100 billion minutes of content and completed more than 45 million transactions on the platform. The audience demographic included 54% Gen Z, 37% Millennials, and 5% Gen X. Gender distribution was 53% male and 47% female listeners.

The platform expanded its content library through AI-powered tools, increasing it by 36 times. Human-narrated series doubled in number. Seven audio series generated over $10 million in revenue, a 600% increase from 2023, and 35 series achieved million-dollar status, three times more than the previous year., the report stated.

Popular Genres

Romance and Drama were the most popular genres globally, followed by Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror and Thriller. These genres accounted for a large portion of user engagement.

Listening Patterns

Over 200,000 users spent over three hours daily on the platform, while 10,000 users listened for over 3,000 hours during the year, averaging eight hours daily.

Mornings (5-8 am) and commuting hours (8-11 am) accounted for 30% of daily listening. Late nights (11 pm-5 am) accounted for 22.9% of total listening. Evenings (8-11 pm) saw users choosing audio series over TV shows, accounting for 8% of daily consumption.

India’s Listening Trends

India was a key market, with listeners from Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Pune. Popular genres included Romance and Drama, Fantasy and Sci-Fi, Horror and Thriller.

Top-performing audio series in India:

  • Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh: Played over 100 million times
  • Secret Ameerzaada: Played over 85 million times
  • Insta Millionaire: Played over 60 million times
  • Insta Empire: Played over 50 million times
  • Super Yoddha: Played over 42 million times

Rohan Nayak, CEO and Co-founder of Pocket FM, stated, “In 2024, we worked to establish audio series as a mainstream entertainment category. This year’s results show the potential of this category and our efforts to support its growth.”

Pocket FM combined human creativity with AI tools to create a scalable content ecosystem. The platform says its aim is to continue expanding its reach and shaping how audiences consume stories.
