As expected, to start the season, the reigning NFC West champion 49ers were once again projected to claim the division title this season.
San Francisco was coming off its second consecutive division title and was looking to make it a 3-peat, having gone 11-1 against NFC West opponents in the previous two years combined.
However, 15 weeks into this season, while not mathematically eliminated, the 49ers (6-8, 1-4 in the division) would need a miracle to win the NFC West.
Let’s take a look at the odds at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Dec. 18.
NFC WEST DIVISION WINNER ODDS
Rams: -175 (bet $10 to win $15.71 total)
Seahawks: +220 (bet $10 to win $32 total)
Cardinals: +700 (bet $10 to win $140 total)
Yes, at FanDuel, there are no odds on the board for San Francisco in the NFC West title race, showing just how far off it is from its third consecutive division crown.
Instead, L.A. (8-6, 3-1), Seattle (8-6, 3-2) and Arizona (7-7, 2-2) are all firmly in the mix.
As is customary in these tight division races, it will come down to the final weeks of the season. The Rams will host the Seahawks and Cardinals in Weeks 17 and 18, respectively. The Cards have the Rams in Week 17 and the 49ers in Week 18.
The Seahawks’ only remaining division game is that Week 18 tilt against the Rams.
The Rams own a win over Seattle but have a loss to Arizona. Seattle has two wins over Arizona and one loss to L.A.
