How to apply for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has launched the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY 2.0) to provide financial assistance for housing.

As part of it, financial assistance will be provided to as many as one crore urban poor and middle-class families across states and Union Territories to construct, purchase or rent a house at affordable cost in the next five years.

Under this scheme, the central government will provide assistance of ₹2.30 lakh crore. In total, 1.18 crore houses have been sanctioned in the first phase of PMAY-U 2.0, while over 85.5 lakh houses have already been constructed and delivered to the eligible beneficiaries.

One of the major flagship programmes of the central government, PMAY-U is aimed at providing all-weather ‘pucca’ houses to eligible candidates in the urban areas.

According to reports, PMAY 2.0 includes a plan to construct one lakh new homes, each receiving a subsidy of ₹2.30 lakh.

The second phase includes multiple components like Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).

How to apply for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana?

The central government has started the online application process for eligible beneficiaries.

Documents required for filing the

PMAY 2.0 application are the Aadhaar Card details of the applicant as well as the family members; active Aadhaar-linked bank account; income certificate; caste certificate; and land ownership documents.

Here are the steps to apply for PMAY 2.0:

Step 1: Visit the official PMAY-U portal at pmay-urban.gov.in.

Step 2: In the application section on the homepage, click on the ‘Apply for PMAY-U 2.0’ option.

Step 3: Carefully read all the guidelines and other instructions before proceeding.

Step 4: Provide your details such as annual income and others to confirm eligibility for the programme.

Step 5: Validate your Aadhaar Card details.

Step 6: Mention all the required details, including address, income proof and other relevant documents.

Step 7: Carefully read the form before submitting it. You can also monitor your application status on the official portal.

The applicants are advised to apply early and stay updated about their respective application progress through the PMAY website.
