Ola pilots 10-minute food delivery service in Bengaluru

Competition is heating up in the 10-minute food delivery space. The latest entrant is Ola, which has launched Ola Dash in Bengaluru, offering food from select restaurants in 10 minutes. An official announcement is expected from the company on Wednesday, December 18.

Ola Dash is part of Ola’s food delivery offering, which it launched via ONDC in June this year.

Dash is already live on the Ola main app under the food delivery section in various locations of Bengaluru. A look at the offerings on the app suggests that select restaurants are part of the service within a 1km radius.

Ola Dash was originally the company’s 10-minute grocery delivery service, which it shut down in 2022 within six months of its launch.

Ola’s foray into food delivery was its second attempt after first venturing into food delivery in 2017 with the acquisition of Foodpanda for ₹28 crore. However, it didn’t see success, forcing it to scale down and eventually shut the service.

Dash comes at a time when 10-minute food delivery is emerging as the next frontier of quick commerce. The most recent entrant was Blinkit, with the launch of Bistro, a separate app that offers ‘healthy’ juices, snacks and meals in 10 minutes, prepared in kitchens. This is similar to Zepto Cafe’s model. Zepto has also announced that it will launch a separate app for Cafe as it sees this offering taking off with over 30,000 orders per day.

However, Dash’s model is similar to Swiggy’s 10-minute food delivery offering, Bolt, where it partners with restaurants within a 2km radius to deliver food and beverages requiring little to no preparation time.
