Boboy Garrovillo on what it’s like to perform as APO Hiking Society without the late Danny Javier

Boboy Garrovillo of APO Hiking Society guested on Tuesday’s “Lutong Bahay,” where he opened up about what it’s been like for him and Jim Paredes to perform again without their fellow member, the late Danny Javier.

Mikee Quintos and Kuya Dudut visited Boboy and his son Fonz for the show’s latest episode.

While sampling their cooking, Mikee asked the OPM icon to choose a photo from a pair of jeans’ pockets and to say anything about it. The first photo he chose was of his dear friend Danny, who passed away in 2022.

“Actually miss na miss namin talaga. Can you imagine for 45 years, we’ve been performing together tapos siya ‘yung lead spokesperson namin sa stage? Lahat ng banter namin, lahat nung mga katuwaan, lahat nung mga gimik, nasa gitna siya, batuhan kami nang batuhan,” he shared.

When Boboy and Jim began performing again last year, they tried to practice the spiels but things just didn’t feel the same.

“Nag umpisa kami ni Jim nga last year, parang tinatakbo namin ‘yung mga spiels, nabubungi. ‘Sino magsasbi nun?'” he said.

In APO Hiking Society’s last tour in the United States, Boboy shared that they brought Danny’s son, Jobim, with them because he also sings.

Asked what he’d want to say to Danny, he shared that they just miss him so much.

“We really miss you, especially when we have very, very successful shows, we wish we could share it with you. I’m sure tumatalon-talon din siya roon sa langit, pag nakita niya, ‘Oy bongga, putok na naman kayo,'” said Boboy.

“Kasama namin siya when we were building the APO into something greater than us. Kasi alam mo ‘yung APO, kaya hindi kami nag-s-solo, hindi kami pwede mag-solo eh, ang lakas namin pag nagsama.”

APO Hiking Society is a Filipino musical group that comprised Danny, Boboy, and Jim. Their popular songs include “Bawat Bata,” “Panalangin,” “Batang-Bata Ka Pa,” “Ewan,” and many more.

Catch “Lutong Bahay” on weekdays at 5:45 p.m. on GTV.
