Eugene Domingo recalled experiencing burnout at one point in her career.
On Monday’s episode of Mikee Quintos‘s show, “Lutong Bahay,” the veteran actress and comedienne shared that it happened when it felt like everything in her life had piled up and she was tired.
“Work ka nang work and then breadwinner ka rin in a way tapos parang pag nag-w-work ka, you give your all and then ma-involve ka pa sa mga intriga. Nagpatong-patong, nakaka-exhaust. So, ano ba dapat?” she said.
The award-winning actress added that she just found herself hiding in the cabinet one day.
“Parang gusto mo lang ng katahimikan, ng kadiliman, na ikaw lang mag-isa.”
According to the World Health Organization, burnout is an occupational condition and not a medical condition. It is defined as “chronic workplace stress that has not been successful managed.” Dr. Joan Perez-Rifael, a board-certified psychiatrist, also noted “feeling of exhaustion” as one of the three dimensions of burnout.
Upon realizing that she was burnt out, the actress shared that she acknowledged what she was going through.
“Tinanggap ko. ‘I’m tired, I should do something about this,'” she said.
“I wrote, I prayed, I had to talk to something more powerful than me kasi minsan tatanggapin mo rin na hindi ka ganun kalakas.”
Eugene has had quite the productive year. The award-winning actress will star in two official entries at the 2024 Metro Manila Film Festival: “And the Breadwinner Is…” and “Espantaho.”
Other entries include GMA Pictures’ “Green Bones” starring Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, “Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital,” “Himala: Isang Musikal,” “The Kingdom,” “My Future You,” “Uninvited,” “Topakk,” and “Hold Me Close.”
