Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, December 13, spoke about the significance of the Kumbh Mela, describing it as a “grand yajna of unity,” which will take the cultural and spiritual identity of the country to new heights. He also emphasised that this event brings together people from all walks of life to immerse themselves in the confluence of the three rivers.
While addressing a Maha Kumbh programme, PM Modi said, “The Kumbh Mela is a grand yajna of unity, where all forms of discrimination are offered as a sacrifice. Here, every Indian who takes a dip in the Sangam presents an extraordinary picture of ‘One India, Great India.’ Here, saints, ascetics, sages, scholars, and common people all come together, immersing themselves in the confluence of the three rivers. The distinction of castes disappears here, and the clash of communities is erased.”
He also praised the workers for their efforts in making the grand gathering a success, ANI reported. He said, “I congratulate the workers and sanitation workers who are working day and night to make Maha Kumbh a success. A new history is being created on this land of Prayagraj. Organising Maha Kumbh next year will establish the cultural, and spiritual identity of the country at a new height. I say it with great confidence, I say it with great devotion. If I have to describe this Maha Kumbh in one sentence, then I would say that this will be such a maha yagya of unity that will be discussed all over the world. I wish all of you for the grand and divine success of this event.”
The prime minister further highlighted that this kind of events send a positive message to every corner of the country and society. Additionally, he criticised the previous Congress government for neglecting Indian culture and religious pilgrimages. He stressed that the current government respects Indian culture and considers it their responsibility to provide facilities to devotees visiting Kumbh.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi offered prayers at the Triveni Sangam to seek blessings for the successful organisation of the upcoming event. Further, he also inaugurated and launched various development projects for Maha Kumbh 2025. These projects are aimed at enhancing infrastructure and preparations for the religious gathering.
He inaugurated various rail and road projects, including 10 new road over bridges (RoBs) or flyovers, permanent ghats and riverfront roads, among others, to improve infrastructure and ensure seamless connectivity in the city.
In accordance with his commitment to a swachh and nirmal Ganga, Modi also inaugurated projects of interception, tapping, diversion and treatment of minor drains flowing into the Ganga. This will ensure zero discharge of untreated water into the river. Additionally, he inaugurated various infrastructure projects related to drinking water and electricity.
The PM inaugurated major temple corridor projects, including the Bharadwaj Ashram corridor, Shringverpur Dham corridor, Akshayvat corridor, Hanuman Mandir corridor and others. These initiatives are designed to improve accessibility for devotees and encourage spiritual tourism.
