This development supports the company’s focus on localised manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2025, with prices starting at ₹7.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kylaq is built on the MQB-A0-IN platform, a modular design system known for its adaptability and safety features. This platform has already been used for four other models produced by the Group in India.

SAVWIPL has achieved a high level of localisation with its Kylaq SUV to optimise production costs and cater to the specific needs of the Indian market. The SUV’s design focuses on four key aspects: safety, comfort, quality, and global appeal.
The Start of Production for the Skoda Kylaq at the state-of-the-art Chakan facility in Pune.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, in a company statement, said, “We’re thrilled to begin production of Skoda Auto India’s first sub-4-metre SUV. Kylaq is engineered and developed in India to cater to evolving customer needs while supporting the Make-in-India initiative. Its positive reception at the World Premiere last month strengthens our confidence in its potential to resonate with Indian buyers.”
To facilitate Kylaq’s production, the Chakan facility’s annual production capacity has been increased by 30%, reaching 255,000 units. Operational efficiency has also been enhanced, with production lines now capable of handling 40 jobs per hour.

Additionally, SAVWIPL has expanded its local supplier network by 10%, aiming to improve turnaround times and reduce ownership costs for customers.
Andreas Dick, Skoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, said, “The successful production start of Kylaq reflects meticulous planning and collaboration between teams in India and the Czech Republic. This model sets new benchmarks in the compact SUV segment and strengthens our commitment to the Indian market.”
SAVWIPL is also working to expand its sales and service network across India, with a goal to establish 350 locations in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by 2025.
