Pushpa 2 stampede death case: Actor Allu Arjun walks out of Hyderabad jail after interim bail

Actor Allu Arjun walked out of Chanchalguda prison on Saturday morning after spending a night behind bars. His release followed an interim bail granted by the Telangana High Court in connection with the death of a woman during a stampede at the premiere of his latest film, Pushpa 2: The Rule.

The 35-year-old woman tragically lost her life, and her eight-year-old son was hospitalised during a stampede-like situation at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre on December 4. Thousands of fans had thronged the venue to catch a glimpse of the actor, leading to chaos.

Although the High Court granted bail on Friday evening, Arjun remained in custody overnight as prison authorities reportedly did not receive the bail order until late at night.

Speaking to reporters outside the jail, Arjun’s lawyer Ashok Reddy alleged, “The High Court order was explicit about his release upon receipt of the directive. This delay amounts to illegal detention. We will pursue legal action against this.”

Reddy further revealed that the actor was detained as a “special category prisoner” while in jail.

Arjun’s arrest on Friday morning triggered a day of dramatic developments. He was taken into custody from his residence and produced before a local court, which remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. His legal team swiftly approached the High Court, securing interim bail hours later.

The Hyderabad Police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security personnel, and the theatre management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges were based on a complaint filed by the family of the deceased woman, holding them accountable for the stampede.

In light of his release, police have heightened security around the actor’s residence, anticipating a large gathering of fans.
