Varun Dhawan on Salman Khan’s impactful cameo and working with Diljit Dosanjh in Baby John

At a press conference on Saturday, December 14, Varun Dhawan shared insights into Salman Khan’s much-anticipated cameo in his upcoming film Baby John. Speaking about the megastar’s contribution, Varun said, “Usska asar bahut time tak rahega (The impact of his role will last for a long time).”

Without giving away spoilers, the Student of the Year actor stated, “It’s a completely original character crafted for him by Atlee sir. There’s nothing like this character that’s been seen before. I won’t divulge much about his role, but one thing I can say is that the impact of his role will be long-lasting.”

On working with Diljit Dosanjh for the song ‘Nain Matakka’, Dhawan couldn’t stop gushing about the Punjabi superstar’s authenticity. “Bhartiya hone ke naate bahut pride feel hota hai, duniya mein tour karte hai aur stadium ke stadium bharte hai (As an Indian, I feel immense pride seeing him perform around the world and filling stadiums),” Dhawan said.

He also shared how easily Dosanjh came on board for the film. “Unhone ek daam se haan bol diya. Woh bilkul dil ka banda hai, koi calculative strategy nahi hai unke maan mein (He said yes immediately. He’s genuinely heartfelt and has no calculative strategies).”

Praising Dosanjh’s craft, he added, “Woh toh artist kai saalon se hai, log ab notice kar rahe hai. Mujhe bahut accha lag raha hai ki mujhe unke saath kaam karne ka mauka mila. (He’s been an artist for years, and it feels great that I got an opportunity to work with him).” Dhawan is all set to share screen with the singer-actor in Anurag Singh’s Border 2.

Baby John is an adaptation of Atlee’s 2016 Tamil blockbuster Theri, starring Vijay and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Dhawan said, “It’s more of an adaptation, not a book-by-book remake.” While the story is inspired by Theri, it is tailored for a Hindi audience.

“When Atlee came with this project, he emphasised the need to adapt the story, not remake it. We’ve changed the geography and many story angles. It’s an adaptation focused on parenting, women’s safety, and a significant case inspired by real events. If someone expects a scene-by-scene remake, they will be disappointed,” the October actor added.

Directed by A. Kaleeswaran, Baby John stars Keerthy Suresh, in her Hindi debut, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles alongside Dhawan. Presented by director and screenwriter Atlee, the film is slated to release on December 25.
