According to Agoda’s report, compared to the same period in 2023, inbound search queries for spiritual destinations rose by 4%, while domestic searches witnessed a 10% rise in searches. This uptick highlights how travellers are looking to experience the country’s spiritual heritage and festivities.
Southern cities, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Chennai, have emerged as top choices for domestic travellers seeking spiritual retreats. Bangalore, known for its green spaces and temples, along with Hyderabad, which is celebrated for its spiritual and historical legacy, and Chennai, a cultural powerhouse of Southern India, have formed a key spiritual cluster for the season. These destinations are favoured for their unique combination of tranquility, culture, and religious significance.

For international travellers, Kochi and Varanasi have proven to be among the most sought-after spiritual destinations in India. Both cities are steeped in history and religious importance and attract visitors from countries such as the US, Singapore, Japan, and Australia. These travellers are drawn to experience India’s unique blend of spirituality and cultural richness, particularly during the festive period.
Krishna Rathi, Senior Country Director for the India Subcontinent and MEA at Agoda, commented on the growing trend, saying, “As the year draws to a close, the festive season offers the perfect opportunity for travellers to connect with India’s rich spiritual and cultural traditions. The rising interest in spiritual destinations throughout India reflects travellers’ evolving preferences for more enriching and culturally immersive experiences.”
