Rajinikanth 74th birthday: All about Thalapathi re-release in theatres

Legendary actor Rajinikanth is turning 74 on Thursday, December 12. Despite approaching the mid-70s, the megastar continues to be a major crowd-puller at the box office. From his iconic dialogues and distinct monologues to his unique style, Rajinikanth has mesmerised one and all with his impressive body of work over the past several decades in the Indian film industry.

As the Thalaiva of Indian cinema is celebrating his birthday, his fans are super excited to mark the occasion, while people can witness some of his blockbuster films re-releasing in theatres.

‘Thalapathi’ re-release

After a gap of more than 30 years, Rajinikanth-starrer Thalapathi, the veteran actor’s only collaboration with Mani Ratnam, is getting a mega re-release in theatres across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, The Times of India reported.

One of the iconic films in Rajinikanth‘s career, Thalapathi is known for its compelling narrative, besides breathtaking performances by Rajinikanth and Mammootty as well as Ilaiyaraaja’s iconic score.

With the film re-releasing in theatres, the young fans of the actor will have a chance to relive this cinematic classic through a digitally enhanced version.

Earlier, the makers of the film also unveiled an official poster, noting that the remastered version of the film will hit theatres on December 12, coinciding with the veteran actor’s 74th birthday.

Several of Rajinikanth‘s fans have taken to X to share how the actor’s 1991 film is still witnessing a major craze among cine-goers.

In Tamil Nadu, the film is being showcased across various multiplexes, including Rohini Silver Screens in Chennai.

Born as Shivaji Rao Gaikwad on December 12, 1950, into a Marathi Hindu family in Bengaluru, Rajinikanth completed his schooling at the Gavipuram Government Kannada Model Primary School as well as the Acharya Pathasala Public School.

Following his dreams, Rajinikanth became a part of the Madras Film Institute and later got noticed by Tamil filmmaker K Balachander, who advised him to learn Tamil and even suggested the name ‘Rajinikanth’.

He made his grand debut in 1975 with the Tamil film Apoorva Raaganga’. Thereafter, he went on to feature in hit films like Bhuvana Oru Kelvi Kuri, Mullum Malarum, Aval Appadithan, Billa, Moondru Mugam, Andhaa Kaanoon, ChaalBaaz, Hum and Phool Bane Angaray among several others.

Rajinikanth was honoured with the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2016. She received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2019.
