Thailand introduces e-visa facility for Indian travelers starting January 2025

In a significant step toward enhancing travel convenience for Indian residents, the Thailand government on Wednesday (December 11) announced the introduction of an e-Visa system. Starting January 1, 2025, all non-Thai individuals currently residing in India will be eligible to apply for a Thailand e-Visa, the Royal Thai Embassy said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to announce that Thailand’s e-Visa will be implemented in India from Jan 1, 2025,” the Royal Thai Embassy said in a post on social media platform X.

Despite the new system, the existing 60-day visa exemption for Indian passport holders will remain unchanged. Indian citizens can continue to enjoy visa-free travel to Thailand for short visits lasting up to 60 days, ensuring hassle-free entry for tourism and brief stays.

All e-Visa applications will be processed through the official portal, https://www.thaievisa.go.th. The embassy clarified that applications could be submitted either by the applicants themselves or through representatives.

According to the statement, visa processing is expected to take up to 14 working days after the visa fee is received. “Applicants must choose to pay a visa fee for which the respective Embassy and Consulate-Generals will provide details on the offline payment options,” it said.

The Embassy also outlined deadlines for the current visa application process. Ordinary passport applications must be submitted to designated visa processing agencies by December 16. Meanwhile, applications for diplomatic and official passports are to be sent directly to the Embassy or Consulate-General by December 24.
