This merger consolidates four airlines, including Vistara, within the Air India Group, creating a unified network with both full-service and low-cost offerings. The merger is part of the ongoing Vihaan.AI transformation program, which aims to reshape Air India into a world-class global airline.
“It has been a little over two and a half years since Air India returned to the Tata Group, and this merger with Vistara is a significant milestone in our journey to transform Air India into a world-class airline. Singapore Airlines remains a key strategic partner in this endeavor, and we are excited to welcome them to the expanded Air India Group,” said N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons.
The newly formed Air India Group will have a strong presence in all key segments of the Indian aviation market—domestic, international, full-service, and low-cost—enhancing operational capabilities, expanding the customer base, and elevating service standards.
“This merger represents a pivotal moment for Indian aviation. We are deeply committed to supporting Air India’s ongoing transformation, leveraging our expertise to restore Air India to its leading position in the Indian market. Together, we aim to create an airline group that will be a source of pride for India and its people,” said Goh Choon Phong, CEO of Singapore Airlines.
Following the merger, the Air India Group will operate a combined fleet of 300 aircraft, serving 55 domestic and 48 international destinations. With 312 routes and 8,300 weekly flights, the airline will offer extended global connectivity through over 75 codeshare and interline partners, reaching more than 800 destinations worldwide. The Group’s combined workforce exceeds 30,000 employees.
The merger strengthens Singapore Airlines’ long-standing presence in India, one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, and opens new opportunities for deeper commercial collaboration between Air India and Singapore Airlines, especially on flights between India and Singapore, and beyond.
