SB19 opened up about their love for their families and how they support them as breadwinners in Vice Ganda’s latest vlog.
Ken, also known as solo artist Felip, said that he wants to give his family a better life.
“Ako po, hindi naman po kami mayaman,” he said. “And I just want my family to have a life na hindi natatamasa noon.”
“Masarap makatulong at sobrang nakaka-proud sa sarili ‘yung satisfaction na nabibigay sa ‘yo nun na makapag-provide ka sa parents mo.”
According to him, he wholeheartedly helps his family and that he is not doing it out of any obligation or utang na loob.
Ken even said that he asks his family why they do not ask for his contributions.
“Sabi nila, nahihiya sila. Sabi ko, ‘Ba’t nahihiya?’ Kasi hindi po kasi kami magkasama ng parents ko nung bata pa po ako eh. So na-meet ko lang sila two years ago or something,” he shared.
Similarly, Stell also chose to be the breadwinner after seeing his parents work hard to provide for him and his siblings.
“Ginawa ko po ‘yung lahat para makapag-provide,” he said.
He also promised himself that if he becomes a successful artist, “Dun ko po talagang gagawin ‘yung best ko.”
Although he admitted that he sometimes gets tired, he keeps his motivations in mind.
“Sometimes, mafi-feel talaga natin na parang, ‘Pagod na ‘ko, ayoko na gawin ‘to,’ but babalik at babalik pa rin ‘yung reason bakit mo sinimulan.”
He is thankful for the blessings they receive and to be able to provide for their family.
“Sana ‘wag po mag-stop,” Stell said. “And kung dumating man ‘yung panahon na parang hindi na kami kailangan ng tao, ‘di pa rin naman po kami titigil kasi ‘yung dreams naman, it never stops.”
For Josh, he has been a family breadwinner since he became independent. Even when he was still a P-Pop trainee, he revealed that he had sidelines like buy-and-sell.
When SB19 became successful, he continued to provide everything for his family.
Vice Ganda said that being a breadwinner is a way of sharing blessings to other people.
“’Wag lang sobra,” Josh said.
“Ano naman ako, parang iniisip ko siya na something na blessing na may napagkukunan ako lagi. Unlike before na kapag wala—wala nakatunganga kami, dilat ang mga mata na di kakain,” Josh said.
“Ngayon, thankful ako lagi na may sobra pa,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pablo shared that he and his siblings are the family breadwinners. His older brother is an artist, whereas his brother Josue is also a musician.
“Hindi ko po maaangkin ‘yung pagiging breadwinner. But siguro kaming magkakapatid, share kami dun sa bread to help the family.”
Justin, on the other hand, acknowledged that he is not a breadwinner as his family was able to provide for him.
But other than financial help, he said, “’Yung nabigay ko pong pinakamalaking tulong sa family namin is ‘yung status ko po ngayon na nakikita ko rin po ‘yung buong family ko po na masaya.”
He added that he grew up privileged, but the reality of it is that the family would fight due to financial reasons, and they would ask to borrow money from relatives.
“’Tas ngayon, ‘yung na-feel ko na difference is ang saya namin ngayon sa pamilya ko compared before na stagnant ‘yung life namin sa pamilya.”
Justin also shared that his mother had been diagnosed with scleroderma, an incurable autoimmune disease that causes the hardening and tightening of the skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, this may also cause problems “in the blood vessels, internal organs, and digestive tract.”
“Simula po nung nag-viral kami… ’Di ko alam, ‘di naman ako doctor, pero nakita ko kung gaano siya kasaya.Simula po nun, ‘di ko alam, nag-heal siya slowly po.”
Per Justin, his parents and older brothers are evidently happier now.
SB19 dropped the singles “Moonlight,” “Ready,” and “Kalakal,” this year.
Their song “Mapa” is part of the soundtrack of “And the Breadwinner Is…” starring Vice Ganda, while “Nyebe” is part of “Green Bones” starring Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid. Both films are official entries in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
