“Squid Game” Season 2 is already making waves ahead of its premiere.
The hit show has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama.
It is the only South Korean series to be nominated, and will be competing against “The Diplomat,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “Shogun,” “Slow Horses,” and “The Day of the Jackal.”
To be nominated for a Golden Globe, the project must air this year and be submitted to the award-giving body before November 4.
The Golden Globe Awards is happening on January 5, 2025.
“Squid Game” Season 2 premieres on December 26 on Netflix.
For the second season, the main character Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae), also known as Player 456, reenters the Squid Game after three years to find the people behind it and end the deadly sport. New games and players are set to be revealed.
Aside from Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo will reprise their roles from Season 1. The new cast members include Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Uk, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ae Sim, Lee David, Choi Seung Hyun, Roh Jae Won, Jo Yu Ri, and Won Ji An.
Following the success of the first season, several cast members won top acting awards from renowned international organizations.
The first season of “Squid Game” was previously nominated for the Golden Globes: Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama for Lee Jung Jae, Best Supporting Actor, Television for O Yeong Su, and Best Television Series – Drama. O Yeong Su became the first South Korean actor to win a Golden Globe.
