Vaishnaw, attending the ceremony at Bangiriposi, highlighted Simlipal’s status as one of the world’s most iconic natural destinations. Citing Time Magazine, he noted that Simlipal is listed among the “50 best places to visit in the world,” making the region a key tourist attraction.
These new rail links, according to the Minister, will ensure better accessibility for both domestic and international tourists, opening up the area for cultural and heritage exploration.

The railway lines will serve tourists and will foster economic development by enhancing trade and business opportunities. As the rail network extends across the mineral-rich areas of Odisha, it will facilitate the movement of freight, supporting nearby industrial hubs. “These new lines will cover northern Odisha and Mayurbhanj, opening up economic prospects for a wide range of local businesses,” Vaishnaw said.
Officials from the railways said that the infrastructure projects are vital in boosting the region’s industrial potential. With a planned investment of Rs 73,000 crore, a substantial portion of which has already been allocated, the government aims to aid progress in Odisha. This will create job opportunities and improve logistics, benefiting locals and industries.

The expansion project is expected to drive growth in some of the lesser-developed areas of Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts in Odisha, as well as East Singhbum district in Jharkhand.
