The engine features a dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) and a plasma-coated cylinder equipped with dual cooling jackets. It utilises liquid cooling for the head and air/oil cooling for the crankcase, ensuring efficient thermal management.
The RT-XD4 is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch. A ride-by-wire system and a quickshifter option will also be available.

Although the RT-XD4 has specifications close to TVS’s existing 310cc engine—such as bore and stroke figures of 78 mm x 62.6 mm—the company clarifies that it is a brand-new design.
TVS has indicated that the new engine addresses growth opportunities in the 300cc segment. Unlike the 310 engine, which has been in use since 2016, the RT-XD4 introduces updated engineering for better performance and future compatibility.
The RT-XD4 platform is expected to support a series of new vehicles. TVS plans to launch the first bike powered by this engine in the coming months. Speculation suggests it will be an adventure motorcycle named Apache RTX, as the company has filed a trademark for the name.
This development allows TVS to reduce reliance on external partnerships while future-proofing its offerings in this market. While the 310 engine will remain available, its long-term viability is uncertain, especially as competitors are exploring new concepts such as a 450cc parallel twin.
