The Sunday Times leads with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime “hanging by a thread” as rebels reach the outskirts of the capital. Syria’s interior minister said Assad’s regime has built a “very strong security and military cordon” to the edges of Damascus, but a US official said the city appeared to be “falling suburb by suburb”. The paper’s picture lead is of the meeting between Donald Trump and the Prince of Wales.
The Mail on Sunday leads on an exclusive with the son of late billionaire Mohamed Al Fayed saying his father “pretended” to have dementia to avoid being prosecuted over allegations of sexual abuse. Omar Fayed told the paper “he got off the hook on the grounds he was mentally incapacitated” but was really “as sharp as a tack”. The former Harrods owner died before facing any charges relating to multiple allegations made against him. Harrods’ new owners have said they were appalled by the allegations and have been investigating since 2023 whether any current members of staff were involved.
“Jungle has saved my Colleen,” is the Sunday Mirror’s headline. In an exclusive interview, Coleen Rooney’s mother Colette McLoughlin told the paper her daughter was “lost” during the much-publicised “Wagatha Christie” libel trial against Rebekah Vardy, but appearing on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… has brought her back.
“Prem ace horror smash” leads the Sun on Sunday, referring to a road accident which seriously injured West Ham footballer Michail Antonio. The 34-year-old had to be cut out of his Ferrari after it hit trees in Theydon Bois, Essex, and is said to be in a “serious condition” in hospital.
The Daily Star Sunday leads with the same story. “Antonio miracle” reads the headline – and shows his wrecked Ferrari. According to the paper, the player is “awake and communicating”.
