IBLA 2024: Sunita Narain honoured with Outstanding Contribution to Public Service Award

The jury of CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards 2024 on Saturday, December 7, presented this year’s Outstanding Contribution to Public Service award to environmentalist Sunita Narain for her relentless pursuit of a sustainable future and contributions to public service.

For decades, Narain, who is the director general of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), has championed the cause of sustainability, advocating tirelessly for our planet and its people.

She has been a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Climate Change, a pivotal body responsible for steering India’s climate response, has chaired the Tiger Task Force, responsible for stemming and turning the alarming decline of tigers in protected reserves, and is serving on the National Ganga River Basin Authority, dedicated to restoring and revitalising India’s iconic river.

Her lifelong commitment to sustainability, climate justice, and being planet-friendly has earned her numerous recognitions and accolades — including the Padma Shri in 2005, the Stockholm Water Prize, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Award, and the Edinburgh Medal.

She has twice appeared on Foreign Policy/Prospect’s list of the world’s top 100 public intellectuals.
