Speaking at CNBC TV18’s Indian Business Leader Awards (IBLA) 2024, Goyal remarked, “We didn’t expect to win 90% of the seats we contested, but the people of Maharashtra saw the work done by the Mahayuti government and placed their trust in us.”
Goyal attributed the victory to a combination of central and state government performance. He highlighted how BJP leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, demonstrated commitment to the people’s welfare. “The people of Maharashtra cannot be conned a second time by spreading fake narratives. They rallied behind us for development, unity, and progress,” he said.
One of the standout initiatives that resonated with voters was the Ladli Behna Scheme, which empowers 2.5 crore women in Maharashtra. “This scheme ensures that women never have to depend on anyone for their day-to-day needs. Our money going to women will empower them to play a vital role in India’s growth story,” Goyal stated.
He further elaborated on PM Modi’s decade-long focus on inclusive development. “From day one, the Prime Minister has ensured roti, kapda, makaan, bijli, sadak, pani, swaasth, shiksha, and digital connectivity for everyone. In the last 10 years, we’ve given 80 crore people free food grains, built 12 crore free toilets to restore dignity to women and girls, and provided healthcare cover to 55 crore people.”
Goyal noted that a record voter turnout, up by 5% compared to previous elections, reflected public faith in Mahayuti’s governance. He criticised the opposition for attempting to divide voters based on caste and religion, saying, “Once again, the opposition tried to create a fake narrative to divide Indian society, but the people of Maharashtra rejected it outright.”
Goyal emphasised the Mahayuti government’s focus on three key tracks: strengthening macroeconomic fundamentals, infrastructure development, and public welfare. “The world recognises India as the growth engine of the global economy, and Maharashtra is a shining example of that progress,” he added.
Concluding his remarks, Goyal said, “Maharashtra has shown that it values tangible development over divisive politics. The trust placed in us only strengthens our resolve to deliver even more.”
