Here’s a roundup of major updates from the auto industry in the first week of December:
- Honda Amaze
Honda Cars India unveiled the third-generation Honda Amaze on Wednesday, December 4. The price ranges from ₹7.99 lakh to ₹10.90 lakh (ex-showroom), with deliveries set to begin next month.
The compact sedan is powered by a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine, producing 90hp and 110Nm of torque. It offers a choice of a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission, complete with paddle shifters. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of around 18.65 km/litre for the manual variant and 19.46 km/litre for the CVT. However, unlike competitors like the Maruti Dzire and Hyundai Aura, the Amaze does not come with a factory-fitted CNG option.
- Jaguar Type 00 concept
Jaguar took a major step towards its all-electric future with the launch of the Type 00 concept car. The coupe features a futuristic design, blending “exuberant modernism” with iconic elements, such as a long bonnet and minimal window openings.
The car challenges traditional proportions with a cab-rearward stance and large 23-inch wheels. Jaguar is targeting a range of 478 miles on the WLTP cycle, with fast-charging capabilities that add 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes.
- MG Cyberster
MG Motor India revealed its new electric roadster, the Cyberster, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo, set for launch in January 2025. The car will be the first product under MG’s luxury sub-brand, MG Select, designed to redefine premium electric mobility in India.
The Cyberster is powered by dual electric motors, delivering 528 bhp and 725 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and boasts a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of up to 570 km on a single charge.
- Skoda Kylaq bookings open
Skoda India has opened bookings for the all-new compact SUV, Kylaq, with prices ranging from ₹7.89 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries will commence on January 27, 2025.
The Kylaq is powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 115hp and 178Nm of torque. It comes with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, with a claimed 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 10.5 seconds.
- Trademark infringement suit
IndiGo has filed a trademark infringement suit against Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited over the use of “6E” in its electric car, the Mahindra BE 6E, unveiled in November.
IndiGo claims that the use of “6E” infringes upon its registered trademark, but Mahindra has responded by stating that it doesn’t see a conflict, as “6E” is a designation for an airline and differs fundamentally from Mahindra’s use for its electric vehicles. The company has applied for trademark registration under class 12 (vehicles).
