Tech this week: iQOO 13, PHANTOM V2 series and more

The first week of December 2024 witnessed some powerful launches in the tech sector, pushing the boundaries in terms of new features and design. Here’s taking a look at the latest add-ons in the tech sector from this week:

OnePlus 13 India launch confirmed

After much speculation, the Chinese smartphone maker has confirmed the launch of the OnePlus 13 in January 2025, while it will come in three different colours — Midnight Ocean, Black Eclipse and Arctic Dawn.

Launched in October in China, the OnePlus 13 comes with a 6.82-inch BOE X2 2K+ AMOLED display that has a peak brightness of 4,500 nits. It is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and offers configurations of up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage.

iQOO 13

iQOO on Tuesday unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the all-new iQOO 13, touted to be India’s speediest smartphone.

Powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship processor, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, the phone comes with a 6.82-inch 2K 144Hz display with a dynamic Monster Halo that will provide real-time alerts for calls, messages, gaming, and music.

It is said to have scored more than 3 million on AnTuTu benchmark testing. On the back, it has a triple-camera setup, including a 50MP Sony IMX 921 VCS true-colour camera.

It boasts a 6,000mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging. Out of the box, iQOO 13 will run on Funtouch OS 15, based on Android 15.

TECNO PHANTOM V2 series

TECNO is unveiling the second generation of its foldable devices, the PHANTOM V2 series, on December 6. Due to its aggressive pricing, the phones will give tough competition to other foldable devices in the Indian market. The PHANTOM V2 series features the PHANTOM V2 Fold as well as the PHANTOM V2 Flip.

PHANTOM V2 Fold, touted as the “strongest fold ever,” is expected to boost productivity with a suite of AI-driven features. It comes with a 5,750mAh battery, a 6.42-inch cover display and a near-creaseless 7.85-inch main display. The company is placing the device under ₹1,00,000 price range.

On the other hand, PHANTOM V2 Flip focuses on a small design.

Amazon Gen AI models

At its flagship summit re:Invent 2024, Amazon announced six variants of the Nova family of models. These include Nova Micro, the text-to-text model with low latency; Nova Lite, which is the multi-modal model for processing image, video, text inputs; Nova Pro as the multi-modal mode, which has USP of accuracy and speed; and Nova Premier, the multi-modal model, which is capable of complex reasoning tasks.

Other than these, it also introduced Nova Canvas, which will help generate images and Nova Reels, which is a video generation model, with studio quality (6 secs up to 2 mins).

OPPO Find X8 Series on sale now

The OPPO Find X8 Series, introduced earlier, went on sale in India on December 3 across OPPO online store, Flipkart as well as other retail outlets. Among the latest devices include the OPPO Find X8 and OPPO Find X8 Pro.

Powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, the major highlight of OPPO Find X8 Pro is its quad-camera setup, which includes two telephoto lenses.
