Govt approves 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli Metro corridor to boost connectivity between Delhi and Haryana

The Union Cabinet on Friday (December 6) approved the 26.463-km Rithala-Kundli corridor as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project, which will strengthen the connectivity between Delhi and Haryana. The corridor will include 21 elevated stations and is expected to be completed within four years of approval.

The project, which will cost ₹6,230 crore, was approved during a Cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that once completed, this expansion will make Delhi Metro one of the world’s three largest metro networks.

The new line will extend from the existing Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala (Red Line) corridor and improve connectivity to northwestern Delhi areas like Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini. The corridor will include stations at Rithala, Rohini (multiple sectors), Bawana, Narela, and Kundli, among others. This will be Delhi Metro’s fourth extension into Haryana, joining existing services in Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh.

Construction on Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro, which includes three key corridors totalling 65.202 km and 45 stations, is currently underway, with over 56% ofthe  work completed. The project is expected to be finished in stages by March 2026. Two additional corridors of 20.762 km are also in the planning stages, PTI reported.

Delhi Metro currently operates 12 lines covering around 392 km and 288 stations, serving an average of 64 lakh passengers daily, with a peak of 78.67 lakh on November 18, 2024.
