FT’s Most Influential Women 2024: Sheryl Sandberg hails Taylor Swift as ‘mastermind’ of music industry

The FT Weekend Magazine has unveiled its list of the world’s most influential women. From European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager to global superstar Taylor Swift and US presidential candidate Kamala Harris, these women are breaking barriers while achieving success in their respective fields.

This unranked list names women from politics, industry, arts and sciences as the most influential globally. “Influence is exerted in many ways, through political acts, creative endeavours, technological breakthroughs and community building. Whatever form it takes, it is defined by what it achieves — by changing the world we live in,” read a report published in the Financial Times.

The profiles of each of these women are written by arguably equally influential women. Former Meta COO and a proud Swiftie, Sheryl Sandberg, has written the Taylor Swift profile.

Sheryl hailed Taylor as a mastermind who has upended the music industry. “She’s a tortured poet who bares her soul yet always stays bejewelled. She’s fearless, a Miss Americana who unites people across countries and cultures,” she added.

According to Sheryl, Taylor’s impact extends far beyond her record-breaking ticket sales. “Her true power is in the global community she has built — one that shimmers with joy, deep connection and friendships forged by trading bracelets and screaming lyrics in unison,” Sheryl said.

Taylor is a shining example of vulnerability, resilience, passion, and purpose, she said, adding she will always cherish the memories of singing and dancing she made along with her daughter at Taylor’s concerts. “And watching them look up to her and see a model of vulnerability and resilience, passion and purpose, generosity and ambition makes me grateful that we are all growing up in the era of Taylor Swift.

She concluded that Taylor doesn’t need to be “The Man” to grab success, saying, “Taylor proves she doesn’t need to be “The Man” to reach the highest pinnacle of success. She can win by being herself.”
